I called Medford Leas to schedule a tour for my parents. They were the 5th community I called, after we toured several others. When scheduling tours I always tell the salesperson that my mother has a memory diagnosis and my father recently had a minor stroke, but both are functioning independently. I understand that all CCRC’s have mental and physical evaluations for applicants, but Medford Leas was the only place that heard me mention my mother’s memory diagnosis and told me I needed to speak with their nurse prior to scheduling a tour. I found it a bit strange that I needed to speak to their nurse and that we were already talking about the possibility of separating my parents when my mother is still cooking, doing yoga, and growing her garden, but I agreed because it sounded like it was just their qualification process with anyone who’s got a memory diagnosis. I expected that the nurse would ask some questions to clarify my parents’ levels of functioning. Instead, there was no “process.” The nurse did not speak to me at all. I got a voicemail saying that unfortunately they have no availability for my parents to enter directly into assisted living. This was a bizarre experience — I did not feel at all listened to when I tried to express that assisted living would not be a fit for my parents, and I felt unnecessarily stressed about the possibility of a community separating my parents, to the point where after speaking with Medford Leas I contacted the law firm we are working with just to get their reassurance that this was an unusual way of handling my request. I could have understood if their sales office (or the nurse who left the voicemail) had asked some basic screening questions on the phone, as the other places did, rather than hearing about my parents and taking a black-and-white approach to their needs. I totally get that they want people to be able to function safely in their community, but so do the other country-club-like places we toured. We’re no longer planning to tour there and I’m honestly a little relieved. My parents were very happy with another CCRC that agrees that they are a fit for independent living (as did all 4 we toured) and will work hard to keep my parents safely together if either of their need levels undergoes a mild or moderate change. I also just looked at their Yelp reviews and I see that this place  withheld refunds back before NJ passed a law prohibiting such behavior. My dad was a religions professor attracted to Medford Leas because of the Quaker connection — doesn’t sound very Quaker in spirit to me.

Being a responsible reviewer, it deeply pains me to share my terrible experience at Medford Leas Nursing Home. I feel compelled to shine a light on the numerous issues I encountered during my stay, which showcased the facility's complete disregard for the well-being and dignity of its residents.

At Medleas Nursing Home, the level of care provided to patients was abysmal, to say the least. The staff consistently ignored call bells, leaving patients feeling neglected and vulnerable. It was shocking and disheartening to witness firsthand how residents would desperately wait for assistance, only to be met with indifference or even abhorrent treatment.

To add insult to injury, the behavior exhibited by some staff members towards residents was nothing short of disgraceful. Instead of providing the compassionate care one would expect, several employees could be overheard using vulgar language and derogatory terms when referring to patients. This not only displayed an alarming lack of professionalism, but also revealed a complete absence of empathy or respect for those they were being paid to care for.

In one particularly distressing incident, it became evident that one of the nurses on the third floor had taken up the habit of vaping. This not only poses potential health risks to patients who may be sensitive to such substances, but it also sends a distressing message about the values and priorities of the staff. Vaping within the premises of a healthcare facility is not only unprofessional, but it also sets a poor example for residents and other staff members.

Moreover, the overall ambiance of the nursing home was deteriorated and unkempt. Frequently, the common areas and patient rooms appeared unclean, which raised serious concerns about hygiene practices within the facility. This neglectful environment further added to the growing list of reasons why med leas Nursing Home fails to meet even the most basic standards of care.

One expects a nursing home to be a place of security, support, and compassion. Regrettably, med leas Nursing Home falls far short of these expectations. It is disheartening to witness such negligence and disregard for the wellbeing of vulnerable individuals. I strongly caution anyone considering this nursing home for their loved ones to seek alternatives that prioritize the care, respect, and dignity of residents.

It is my sincere hope that my review will serve as a catalyst for change and encourage the management of medleas Nursing Home to address the severe issues plaguing their facility. No individual should have to endure such horrendous treatment, especially under the guise of professional care.

Outstanding facility. Our loved one visited twice for extended nursing care. The staff is caring and kind. The rooms are clean, the food like a restaurant. There are gorgeous grounds with walking paths and many activities and socializing for the patients. Organized and well run.

This place is horrible. Please do not send your loved ones here. The nursing staff are silly and do not care for them. I have overheard them joking and teasing residents for pooping themselves or the bed and it is just utterly horrifying. This has happened on numerous occasions when I have been there. Its horrible and I cant stand for it anymore. I constantly am hearing the residents call bells go off and the nursing staff either making a noise or a swear when they have to God Forbid get up to tend to a resident that cant tend to themselves. Its very sad and I hope they pick up the slack.

Let’s first start off with the fact you felt the need to put a nurses name and place of employment in a negative light on a well known platform.  Clearly Nurses putting their own lives and families lives at risk through Covid means nothing to you. Since you have no respect for yourself or the medical field.. let’s just review a few things first for awareness.
Since you noticed a “vape” that you felt was so important to warn others about
Can I ask if you noticed:
1.	Michelle taking her “break” on the unit or not taking a break at all cause maybe a resident is having anxiety or she doesn’t want to miss the doctor to tell them a change - glad you noticed her vape
2.	Doctors mention when Michelle’s working, infections are caught, wounds properly reassessed and issues addressed- glad you noticed her vape
3.	Michelle usually doesn’t have a CNA to assist with morning care at same time she has morning meds to give.. instead of complaining she goes straight to work so the residents don’t notice she’s the only one until 3pm IF they give her a CNA to help with evening showers and care ? - glad you noticed her vape
4.	Michelle buys residents soap and nail kits out of her own pocket, as not all residents family visit unless a holiday -glad you noticed her vape
5.	Michelle brought in a curling iron cause a resident was unable to go to the beauty salon.. you guessed it.. Michelle curled their hair even though she had to finish an admission so they could attend an event at Medfordleas with their integrity intact. -glad you noticed her vape
6.	Did you hear the residents when they hear Michelle is off work cause she knows exactly how to fix their glasses, cause Michelle again bought a kit out of her pocket to have ready for weekends ect -glad you noticed her vape
7.	Did you hear other nurses calling Michelle on her day off, asking questions cause michelle always answers cause she CARES about the residents health on Haddon 3  -glad you noticed her vape
8.	Did you notice her stay 14 hours instead of her scheduled 12 hr shift ? She does thing regularly to not only help the night shift but she wants to make sure evening meds are given at the most therapeutic time for the residents (for sleep/eye drops/breathing treatments)… when she worked the whole shift as the nurse and aid
