After a significant stay of over three days, which included a surgical procedure, I can confidently say that Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) provides truly world-class care. I am highly impressed and incredibly thankful to be a part of the Allegheny Health Network.

From the moment I arrived, the quality of care was evident. The entire staff—from the administrative team to the dedicated doctors, nurses, and surgeons—were not only competent and talented but also genuinely friendly, patient, and attentive. Every question was answered with care, and I always felt respected and prioritized during my recovery.

Beyond the medical excellence, the hospital environment itself was superb. The rooms were impeccably clean, and the attention to hygiene was constant and reassuring. Even the food was delicious and provided great comfort during my recovery. I was also deeply touched by the thoughtful details, like the substantial care package and the puzzles provided to help pass the time—a small gesture that made a huge difference in making the long stay feel more manageable.

Allegheny General Hospital exceeded every expectation. If you are facing a stay or surgery, I would highly recommend AGH without any hesitation. This is an exceptional institution.

At AGH on floor 6 getting poor care for my sister.  No PT/OT for my sister because it's the weekend.  No one can put her in a chair.  There is a soiled wash rag on her bed.  The person at the nurses station, Sharon, has been on her phone just belly laughing and yuckin' it up.  I guess there is no one on the clock on the weekend.

After posting the above with photos  on FB, AGH RETALIATED by banning me from visiting my sister at the hospital.

Legal action may ensue.

Went in with pancreatitis after just leaving 3 weeks prior for it.I also had a procedure for internal bleeding. After that surgery had a physician  i never seen before come in and  saying he was checking on me. He started roughly pushing on the area where i just had surgery on for internal bleeding so hard I was jumping back from him he looked like he didn't care he just hurt me he left the room leaving me in alot of pain. Most doctors were good, but. doctor Carson which he came in and was rude and very aggressive. I was in alot of pain all other doctors said I should be on the pain meds he just lied took me off meds and put that pain was better managed.I would not even call him a doctor because they don't act like that come in your room in an aggressive and threatening manner I feel sorry for anyone who has to deal with him. I was in alot of pain once he took over and it was like that's exactly what he wanted. They really need to look into him because no one should be treated the way he did to me. I refuse to ever go back to that hospital because of him which is sad because they do have some great specialist doctors that care like doctor Ethan.I was discharged still in alot of pain and did still have some concerns but i did not feel safe or confortable to ask anything after the way i was being treated. Beware when sending family here.there are other issues I had which I will be putting in the survey when I get it in the mail for this visit

All the employees are helpful to you for your medical needs. I never had any bad experiences as inpatient or outpatient care. I use the escort service and the people are very caring and patient with you. They make sure you get to the right medical office where your appointment is. And when your done, they stay with you and make sure you get into the right car to take you home. I also was taken to AHN Allegheny Hospital by ambulance from AHN Hempfield Neighborhood Hospital. They make sure you get to the right room. The nurses make sure you get settled in right away. Then other people check on you and makes sure you get the care you need. The rooms are kept clean every day. The staff makes sure you get your meals. The hospital also will makes sure you get back home safe and sound.

If I could give negative stars, I would. Our experience at this hospital was the worst we have ever had. We live three hours away and were instructed by my father’s physician in Pittsburgh to make the drive because everything would be arranged in advance for a scheduled procedure. We were assured the doctor would call ahead so that my father could be admitted promptly.
When my parents arrived, the emergency room was overwhelmed, and they were told there were 74 patients ahead of them and that my father was not considered a priority. This was despite the fact that he has ALS and was there to receive a feeding tube. My father waited in the ER for 23 hours before finally being taken into surgery. During this time, staff did not check on him, ask if he needed anything, or provide basic care or communication.
After surgery, my parents were moved to a regular room, but the quality of care did not improve. My mother had been told over the phone that she would be allowed to stay with my father due to his condition; however, once there, she was told she had to leave. Because of his ALS, my father struggles to communicate and becomes confused, making her presence essential.
What should have been a short hospital stay turned into a five-day admission due to extremely poor communication among doctors, nurses, and hospital staff. Communication with my mother was also inadequate—she was rarely informed about what was happening unless she repeatedly asked for updates. On one of the days, the hospital spent an entire day attempting to locate a feeding tube pump for my father, yet one was never found.
Overall, this was an unacceptable experience marked by disorganization, lack of compassion, and poor communication. No family should have to endure this level of care, especially when dealing with a serious and progressive illness like ALS.
