Our experience with Cedar Ridge in Oklahoma City was truly positive, and I am very thankful for the care my daughter received there.

The intake process was thorough and thoughtful—it took a bit of time, but not too long, and I appreciated how carefully everything was handled. Every staff member I interacted with was kind, patient, and professional. Most importantly, my daughter shared that she was treated very kindly during her stay and felt supported by the staff.

She received help quickly, and we saw improvement almost immediately. During our visits, we could genuinely see how much she was healing and learning. As a mother, that meant everything to me. Communication was excellent throughout the entire process—everyone kept me informed and involved, which gave me a great deal of reassurance during a very difficult time.

Her therapist, Rhoda, was an incredible human being and exceptional at her job. We connected with her immediately, and I truly wish we could have taken her with us when my daughter was discharged.

The only critiques my daughter mentioned were that the food wasn’t very good and that sleeping was sometimes difficult due to necessary safety measures—but those are minor in comparison to the level of care and support she received.

I truly have no complaints. I am deeply grateful for Cedar Ridge and the role they played in helping my daughter heal during such a critical moment in her life.

DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE NO MATTER WHAT. My son was hit and pushed down by another kid, we were not notified this happened. Then when I called we were completely gaslit about the situation. We were told they would keep in contact with the school, they didnt even get a phone call. They had this really nice gentlemen at admission who told us all the "fun things" they would do. (Kinda gave me military recruiter vibes) No group therapy, no outside time, they sat around and watched TV....... and then they change my son's dosage on his meds without informing us, they told us they would inform us of med changes. I assumed that meant dosage, so I called when my son told me they gave him extra pills. They said they dont inform of dosage changes, but I requested to be told. The nurse said no problem and she'd put it in the chart, and when we picked him up they told us the doc increased his dose again starting the night before.. i wasnt informed. on a wednesday afternoon, on the phone with my son and the therapist she literally promised that if he had a good night he would get out the next day. He had a good night and even a good morning, and then at 4p we are told he isnt coming home until Sunday because of med monitoring. Which, I understand. Thats fine. But dont promise an emotionally sensitive 11 y/o he gets to go home for good behavior the next day and then not deliver, especially in a place like that AND knowing its his first time. My son will not be going back, we will travel hrs if we have to. Literal nightmare.

Recently, seventeen year old behaved like a whole other person.  My sweet kid was yelling at me and physically stimulated beyond his control. He’d dropped his friends for a new girlfriend who was clearly on an expedited path to nowhere. I called the police to detain him twice before taking him to Cedar Ridge for an evaluation.  During the evaluation, I told the intake woman about the homicidal threats he’d made towards me, how he mentioned killing himself.  They told him it’s their job to keep teens dealing with these types of feelings. Therefore, he stayed there for 5 days. On the fourth day, we were invited in for family therapy, which was wonderful.  By this time, he had learned to better control his anger, talk about his feelings, and do not be so defensive when we tell him what’s done wrong. It was evident he didn’t enjoy staying there, but, let’s be honest, none of his family enjoyed the way he treated us leading up to this.  Upon release, we followed all the instructions to focus on sleep, diet and exercise.  My once active teen is now active again. He affirms that sending there was the best think we could do. Now, he has a new respect for vapes and how they chemically react with young men. He spoke to the other 9 boys there and they were all using them before being checked in!
As far as the conditions there, my son complained the shower was cold and that he wore the same clothes every day.  I really didn’t care because it taught him to appreciate the blessings of home.  If you have a child that’s suffering from personality changes, consider Cedar Ridge.  Their methods helped my son.  It’s been over two months and the temper has not returned, he’s learned how to cope with his anger and refrain from drugs.

Our experience with Cedar Ridge was both good and bad. Everyone was really nice when going through the check in process. The lady on the phone prepared me to bring a few pairs of clothes because my son would more than likely be staying. After we went through that process with Tracy and a nurse (can't remember her name), they drove my child back to the unit he would be staying. I was able to walk back there with him thankfully bc they put us in a room with a bunch of chairs and the door was locked. When leaving the nurse told me it would be at least 24 hours before I heard from the counselor,  which it was the next day. My son got 1 phone call a night from 6-8 and it was supposed to be for 10 minutes. The first night it was 6-7 including verifying the info with the nurse. The second night it was 8 minutes and the third night it was 10 minutes. At visitation on Saturday, they were 20 minutes late bringing him and another kid out. They did not extend our visit so we didn't get a full hour with our son. He was scared and alone and has never been away from us like this ever before. Then Sunday I mentioned it to the person at the front desk when you check in and was informed they are supposed to give you your full hour from when they bring your kid out. Monday I got a phone call from a nurse asking for my permission to start my kid on some medicine. She wasn't able to answer my questions as to why the psychiatrist wanted to put him on these meds and I never once received a phone call from the psychiatrist, which raises a concern for me. After my son was discharged, he was supposed to have his prescription sent to our pharmacy. When my husband went to pick it up later that evening, they had nothing for my son. I called Cedar Ridge and they said they would have the nurse or his unit call me back. They never did. I called the next day and they finally sent it over so we could pick it up. Definitely need better communication and all the nurses/ staff need to know the proper procedures during visitation.

I was admitted last Saturday and just discharged today. You quickly learn that the rules don't apply to everyone. Bedrooms are to be empty of people by 730am and doors locked. This was not the case while I was there. Many people stayed in bed and slept or slept on the floor or in chairs instead of participating in the days activities. Some had medical reasons to be in bed but not all of them. Some of the staff Ms. Lovely to be the best while others like Ms. April was very rude and would get agitated easily. Groups were great especially Sarah's, Brad's, and James's. These groups were very helpful to me. Over all I came out feeling better than when I arrived. Mostly because I met some great women with similar interests. I made some great friends for life there and we will continue to encourage each other. One of the rules is not trade contact info with each other but we did anyway. We were a close group. I was the last of our group to be discharged and was so happy to have their contact info.
