This hospital is a joke! The intake in the er department is of low quality, they ask 1 question and you are interrupted with other people walking up to the desk! Where is the privacy? There’s trash everywhere you would think that they had custodians 24/7 since this is a hospital and our children are sick, that just goes to show all the bacteria and sickness just sitting in this waiting room and part of the hospital.

We are at CHKD very often. We have met several wonderful people who work here. Today we met the absolute BEST person who works in admitting. Debbie B has such a warm, welcoming personality that helps calm nerves in any hospital visit.  Such a true blessing!!!

Going to the ED sucks no matter what.  There is a disconnect between registration and treatment but the facility is older and they do what they can do in a highly charged emotional situation.  Ive had to use the ED many times both at chkd and sentara and know for a fact that would take any child to chkd before taking them to another hospital.   There is a big beautiful new CHKD being built a block away and believe most issues I've run into will be solved with the updated facility.  Im grateful for them!

I am deeply disappointed in the care provided by CHKD ENT and will no longer be utilizing their services. Nurse Practitioner Shanna Harris with CHKD ENT ignored the recommendations of two other doctors, one being a pulmonologist with CHKD, and the other, an ENT who was the referring provider. Due to this, I have decided to proceed with care through VCU, where Dr. Ansari has taken my daughter’s case seriously, thoughtfully considered the recommendations of Dr. Queen and Dr. Chocano, and determined that my daughter’s adenoids are causing a 100% airway obstruction without requiring a sleep study. If you are looking for exceptional care from an ENT for your child, I highly recommend Dr. Ansari at VCU. The drive is worth seeing her, and I would park on a snowy parking space on the side of the road 100x over to have better care than what Shanna Harris provided.

Do not trust this emergency department with your child's life.  Their emergency room physicians do not want to do their job and are a danger to your child's life.  Then when they make a medical error, they want to charge you for the additional medical treatment received.

In December my daughter was having allergic type reactions to anything and everything she consumed (meds and foods).  After several doctors appointments, we decided more treatment was needed because her lips were swelling and antihistamines were only working for 30-40 minutes.

My daughter had Benadryl prior to going to the ER.  They gave her more and on top of that they gave her an antacid that words as an antihistamine in the gut.  All of this combined was to much anti-histamine for her system (confirmed by the doctors when we were admitted).  These cause her to have vasovagal responses and every time she tried to stand for 12 hours she would pass out and we were pretty sure she was seizing as well.  NONE OF THIS was happening when we came in.

It literally looked like my child was dying.  She was white as a ghost, she could not be upright at all, could not stand, nothing.

We had been released and she passed out within 10 minutes of getting the meds.  We had requested testing to see what the cause was and was denied.

Upon passing out at the hospital exit, we were taken back.  Where the new doctor was so confused while the other did not do the requested testing and they did xrays and a sputum test to determine that it was mycoplasma pneumonia.  Had the first doctor done her job and not just given more medication, she wouldn't have passed out, wouldn't have seized and we would have had answers.

We had to be admitted due to their medical error and the fact that she could not be up right without passing out.  Today I received a letter that they did not make a medical error and that I am responsible for the full bill.

If the first doctor had done her job and done the requested testing my child would not have passed out, seized, or needed to be admitted, but somehow I am responsible for the additional charges. My daughter could not walk for a week after this incidence.

I will NEVER ever return to this or another CHKD.  In the past when my children have been sick we have gone to the Sentara Emergency Rooms and it's amazing that they are more thorough and know how to treat children better than a place that specializes in children.

We went to the ER because she was covered in hives/blotches, her face and lips were swelling.  These are anaphlaxis type reactions.  We had photos.  You would expect that an ER physician would find this concerning and want to find the cause rather than give more Benadryl, a PPI that is also an antihistamine, Tylenol and an antibiotic (which was the wrong antibiotic).  Ever their other doctors in the ER and the staff when we were admitted stated that the doctor was in the wrong, over medicated her and that she should have done the testing and now I am being held financially responsible for their medical errors.

I immediate emailed their complaint department upon being discharged and I start getting bills 8 months later.
